The Club Room

It’s the best way to increase your involvement with Wellcome Collection, and it gives you many special privileges.

The Club provides a unique and intimate environment for scientists, artists, historians, researchers, students and anyone with a keen interest in medicine, life and art to meet and exchange ideas. Join before the end of September to benefit from our introductory joining rates.

Club Room

Our Club Room offers WiFi and refreshments. Designed by renowned interior designers Studioilse, this is a stylish and innovative place where art meets science, and where you can meet other members to swap ideas, read, bring guests or simply relax.

Henry Wellcome’s first invention as a teenager was invisible ink. The design of the Club Room enters this spirit of innocent invention with a sense of humour, an open attitude and a celebration of the eccentricities of science. The room looks like a mixture of domestic schoolroom and quirky science lab, with biscuits in laboratory jars, lightbulbs with wings, snaking bookshelves and a giant creeping sectional sofa. It’s a place that will be influenced and informed by its members, with each person, event, meeting and discussion contributing to its evolving character.

Private view invitations

Our special exhibitions gallery will host a programme of temporary shows, weaving together the perspectives of those working in the arts, sciences and humanities.Membership entitles you to attend two private views per year with a guest.

Networking events

We will hold a Club Night on the third Tuesday (where possible) of every month, so you can mingle with one another and share ideas. Refreshments will be available.

Special visits

To offer something special to Club members, we have arranged opportunities for you to visit places rarely accessible to the general public, such as Blythe House (the storerooms that hold more than 100 000 items from Sir Henry Wellcome’s collection, not on public display), the Diamond synchrotron (a giant light source and X-ray facility that helps scientists and engineers to answer fundamental questions about the basic structure of matter and materials) and the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus (where you can explore how the ‘book of life’ has been decoded by the international Human Genome Project).

Priority booking for Wellcome Collection events

Judging by uptake to date, our events in the venue are likely to be very popular. We will therefore offer priority spaces on the waiting list for members on the night the event takes place.

Concessions

As a member, you will be eligible to attend paid symposia and events at the published concessionary rates. You will also be eligible for special discounts from time to time, on items such as themed book titles published alongside major exhibitions.

Library registration

With your Club membership you automatically become a one-year member of the Wellcome Library. To activate your card, visit the Library Reception (on the second floor opposite the Club Room). Staff there will be happy to introduce you to the facilities.

Guest passes

On joining, you will be given ten guest passes for the year to use at your discretion.
