Wellcome Images
Wellcome Images - 2000 years of human culture
Wellcome Images is one of the
Wellcome Library's major visual collections and also
forms part of Wellcome Collection. Wellcome
Images is one of the world's richest and most unique
image collections, with themes ranging from medical and social
history to contemporary healthcare and science. Whether you're
looking for medicine or magic, the sacred or the profane, or
science or satire - you'll find more than you expect.
This unrivalled collection contains historical
images from the Wellcome Library collections, Tibetan Buddhist
paintings, ancient Sanskrit manuscripts written on palm leaves,
beautifully illuminated Persian books and much more.
The Biomedical Collection holds more than 40 000
high-quality images from the clinical and biomedical sciences.
Selected from the UK's leading teaching hospitals and research
institutions, it covers disease, surgery, general
healthcare, and sciences from genetics to neuroscience,
including the full range of imaging techniques.
Wellcome Image Awards
The Wellcome Image Awards reward contributors for their outstanding
work; winners are chosen by a panel of experts. The 11th
round of the awards fell in 2010, and the winners were
exhibited in the Lightbox, on the first floor of Wellcome
Collection, between 24 February and 10 July 2011.
Although this exhibition has now closed, the images can still be
viewed on the Wellcome Image Awards
website.
