Treating yourself

Appliances from Mr George Thomson's 'Mechanical Substitute for the Arms', British, 1919

We all look after ourselves by deciding what to eat and drink, how to live and work and what to do when unwell.

These exhibits explore a range of ways in which people have treated themselves, not always in the best interests of their health.

For a taste of what you would see in the 'Treating yourself' section of Wellcome Collection's 'Medicine Man' gallery, take a look at key exhibits.
