Bobby Baker opened up her unique Therapy Empire at Wellcome Collection, and offered a set of life-changing techniques in a show that affected ordered and disordered minds alike.
'How to Live' featured a live 'open session' with one of Bobby's many patients, a frozen pea diagnosed with a personality disorder. The audience watched the pea unfreeze as it learned new skills to cope with its problems and develop 'a life worth living'.
Bobby Baker is one of the most widely acclaimed and popular performance artists working today. 'How to Live', developed by Bobby in consultation with psychologist Dr Richard Hallam, received funding from Arts Council England and the Wellcome Trust.
BSL interpreted performance Saturday 22 September 15.00-16.00
"...a glorious spoof of self-help mumbo jumbo - specifically, the practice of cognitive behavioural therapy - yet it has a serious side…"
The 'Guardian'
"Her shows are always disconcerting; her mumsy good humour is so implacable that it takes on a sinister edge..."
The 'Observer'
"Charming, eccentric, thoughtful, Baker offers you plenty to chew on - including, of course, a pea..."
'The Financial Times'
"...she is the most extraordinary and endearing performer and over the years has built up a firm following with her shows, which take a quasi-scientific approach to the minutiae of daily life and are always idiosyncratic, revealing and thought-provoking."
'The Financial Times'
