Steve Cross on the direct testing project
Direct-to-consumer DNA testing is now widely
available online without medical mediation: you can send a sample
of your genetic material for analysis and receive results of basic
tests on your own DNA. Some tests offer to store your DNA as a
safeguard; others claim to tell you something fundamental about
your ancestry. The direct testing project set out to analyse the
results of these tests. In this short video, Steve Cross
demonstrates how to take a sample of your own DNA, looks at the
results of some of the tests returned, and what they told him about
himself.
Some of the results of the direct testing
project are displayed in the
Medicine Now gallery at Wellcome Collection. This video is from
the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute's Your
Genome website. Find out more
