Paper mache sculpture of a human skeleton in a red hat
Mexico, 1975
This paper mache sculpture of a human skeleton
in a red hat was produced for the Day of the Dead festival at Lake
Pátzcuaro in Mexico in November 1975. All Souls Day in the
Christian calendar, on 2 November, is widely celebrated in Mexico
as an occasion of remembrance for dead family and friends. Images
of skulls and skeletons in the form of toys and sweets are a common
feature of Day of the Dead celebrations.
