The Festival Pattern Group at the 1951 Festival of Britain -
which used diagrams of atomic structure as inspiration for
wallpaper, soft furnishings and other fabrics - was coordinated by
Mark Hartland Thomas, Chief Industrial Officer at the Council of
Industrial Design. This booklet contains his account of the
project. The COID was a government agency established in 1944 to
promote design - it later became the Design Council.
