"From using cocaine alone I do not have AIDS"
Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe e.V., Berlin, Germany, 1990s
The rather controversial headline message of
this poster advertises the fact that cocaine use is not a major
transmission path of HIV. The poster also describes acid (LSD),
speed (amphetamines) and ecstasy (MDMA) as 'moderate drugs',
experimentation with which need not conflict with safe use and safe
sex.
This poster was one of a set of four aimed at
people already living high-risk lifestyles, or as the poster itself
puts it 'intensely and passionately'. Others declared that from
heroin use and sex alone one could not contract HIV. The posters
were produced and printed, but never distributed.
