How HIV is and isn't transmitted
India, 1995
Educating people about how the HIV virus
cannot be caught has been as important as educating people about
ways in which they are at risk, in particular allaying fears of
contracting the virus through everyday social activity.
This Indian poster describes, in Hindi, ways
in which HIV can be contracted, and ways in which it can't. HIV can
be communicated through sex, blood transfusions, sharing needles
and from a mother to her child; but sneezing, handshakes, sharing
food and insect bites do not transmit the virus.
