Schools and youth groups
Our new Youth Programme offers study days,
tours and events with schools and youth groups.
What we can offer you at Wellcome Collection
Our programme is aimed at young people aged 14 -
19. We are focused on providing each visiting group with a
high-quality, engaging experience – for FREE, and
on a date that suits you. We are happy to adapt sessions to fulfil
your needs in meeting curriculum links and learning outcomes.
-
We currently have two study days available: 'Body Image' and 'HIV/AIDS'. Both draw on original material in the galleries or collections and incorporate discussion and creative activities in a cross-curricular approach.
-
Tours of our temporary exhibitions and/or permanent galleries will inspire young people to engage with what it means to be human in a "venue where science, art and culture converge" ('Nature' magazine).
-
Arrange an introductory visit to the world-famous Wellcome Library for older students wishing to use the Library for individual research and study.
Self-guided visits
Self-guided visits are
also welcome, although we would greatly appreciate it if you could
let us know when you are planning to visit. See some practical information about visiting us
[PDF].
What else could we
offer?
We are keen to work with individual schools, teachers and youth
leaders to develop new sessions and resources that meet the needs
of young people. If you have a particular topic you would like to
explore, or challenge we can help you meet, please get in touch
with us at youthprogrammes@wellcomecollection.org.
What we can offer you online
We are in the process of developing resources
that teachers and youth leaders can access online. You may find
some of the following resources from the Wellcome Trust useful:
Wellcome
Images: picture library of biomedical and history of
medicine images, which are free to search and download.
Big Picture: the Wellcome Trust's science
education magazine for young adults (post-16).
What else could we
offer?
We'd like to hear from teachers
about the kinds of resources which would be most useful – image
collections, pre- and post-visit teaching materials, resources to
support self-guided gallery visits, topic information and links to
external websites, INSET. Get in touch and tell us how we can
support you.
