“I was born in Danang and currently live and work in Ho Chi Minh
City, Vietnam. I like to collect stories, true or mythical,
and weave them into my own narratives. These combined stories are
portrayed through mixed media that serve to question and explore
changes in lifestyle and perception in a community over time.” Lena
While in residence, Lena will be exploring
zoonosis research and the relationship between animals and people.
The outcomes of her residency will include an exhibition at Ho Chi
Minh City Fine Arts Museum in partnership with Sàn Art.
Anecdotes of the animal-human interface and site-specific researches at the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit.
"At the abattoir in Dong Thap many butchers worked without shoes or shirts. Pig skin and human skin are surprisingly similar."
"They would come by every now and then to ask me what it was and what they saw in the thing. Some said they saw an elephant, some said ox, others said chicken and that it made them hungry."
"With the advancement of technology, scientists are able to take pictures of their samples, but artists bring those images into ordinary life."
Lena began her residency in March 2012.
