Glasgow's Dirty Weekends

The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery
2-6 Sept 2011
The
Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery presents five days of getting
down and dirty in the city of Glasgow exploring infection and
pollution, from middens to microbiology, historical forensics, the
impact of the filthy industrial city on people, and even Scotland’s
encounters with tropical diseases. The programme is inspired
by our astonishing science and medical collections, as well as the
amazing world class research being undertaken in the University of
Glasgow.
There will be something for everyone including a dirty tea
party, drop-in hands-on activities covering waste management,
forensic archaeology, signs of disease, hygiene and hand washing, a
poster display, science busking, series of short lunchtime talks, a
Café Scientifique event, city tours and filth-ridden infected
films.
Glasgow Science Centre
23-26 Sept 2011
The Dirt Season comes to a suitably messy end with Dirt and
Digestion - a digestive adventure at the Glasgow Science
Centre, part of a weekend of grimy family fun which also
includes Infection Detection events where visitors can solve
bacterial mysteries with UV fluorescence, interactive games and
lots of hands on activities. Morning master classes will run for
adults, looking in more detail at current cutting edge research on
the theme. You can also join in online and enter our 'Living with
Dirt' photo competition, which will launch in late summer.
