Why do so many mental health problems appear to have their origins in adolescence? Recent research is revealing how many key response systems undergo crucial development during these years, which may go some way to explaining some of the tragedies as well as the triumphs of adolescence. What part can science and smart social intervention do to guide our children through this challenging stage?
