Kevin Marsh is an expert in child malaria and Director of the KEMRI–Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi, Kenya. He has worked at the forefront of world malaria epidemiology for over 20 years. He spoke to A C Grayling about the challenges of fighting tropical disease in the heart of Africa, and his reasons for optimism in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
