Lovesick

Thursday 18 October 2012, 18.00-19.00

Doctor takes pulse of female patient

The word ‘lovesickness' has described the torments of unrequited passion through centuries of literature. Using case books, court records and diaries this talk reveals personal accounts of the painful side of love in seventeenth century England. As well as giving a glimpse into tantalising tales of doomed romance, we look at experience of disease as a cultural phenomenon.
