From Shell Shock to PTSD: a story in three acts
There is no single explanation of why war causes people to break
down. In extreme cases, the impact of trauma is so great that it
prevents combatants from returning to the front line. But military
training and medical models do not always match up. Group identity
may be emphasised in military training, but individual identity is
used by psychiatry. This session will look at the changing views of
combat demotivation over the last century.
