What is a teenager?
25 February 2010, 19.00 - 20.30

There is no adolescent stage in animal
development, so why did it evolve in humans? It has only
recently been recognised as a key stage in human development,
and the UK doesn't score well on youth well-being. We ask what it
takes to successfully nurture the next generation and explore how
other cultures manage this rite of passage.
Speakers:
David Bainbridge, zoologist, vet and author of
Teenagers: A natural history
Ann Hagell, chartered psychologist and Editor,
'Journal of Adolescence'
Heather Montgomery, anthropologist and lecturer in
childhood studies, Open University
Facilitator:
Claudia Hammond, psychologist, medical science
presenter for the BBC
