From Within, Annie Cattrell
Silvered bronze cast, 2006
Annie Cattrell has a fascination with metamorphosis and the
hidden structures, systems and landscapes of the human body. These
casts transform the protective shell of the cranium into a pair of
precious objects, revealing the impression of the brain on the
interior surface of the skull - an anatomically sensitive
interface. They were taken from a skull held at Guy’s Hospital in
London, where the cap had been cut off to facilitate removal of the
brain.
