'An Angel Leading a Soul into Hell' by a follower of Hieronymus Bosch
Oil on wood, possibly Italian, 16th century
Painted in the style of Dutch painter Bosch, this work is
probably by an Italian admirer of his work - the painting carries
the remains of a papal seal on the back. It shows the arrival of a
naked man in hell, led by a winged angel in white who seems to
order the damned man to enter. Fire and torment awaits him while
fearful monsters mete out horrendous torture on those condemned
souls already there.
