Skin cells from the blistered area of a burn
Skin cells from the blistered area of a burn. Scanning electron
micrograph by Anne Weston, 2007. This photograph shows damaged
skin cells from a hand scalded by boiling soup. The original image
was black and white; the pink colour was added later to emphasise
the damaged area. The cell membrane has been affected by the
stretching and shrinking of the resulting blister, and the wrinkled
effect is a result of the skin swelling and returning to its normal
shape.
