Artist Regina José Galindo interrogates the
pervasive culture of cosmetic surgery in this performance. Filmed
in Venezuela, the country with the third highest rates of aesthetic
procedures per capita, the artist stands naked while a leading
cosmetic surgeon marks her for the changes he would make to her
body. The result is an unsettling mix of intimacy and an objective
viewing of a body, striving to render it as ‘normal’ as possible
and stripping away all traces of individuality.
