Maintaining a fighting force
'Embarkation of the Sick at Balaklava', 1855

modern British history. The catastrophic extent of its
organisational failures proved to be a catalyst for recognising the
vital importance of a military infrastructure that could provide an
army with the appropriate food, clothing, accommodation and medical
care where and when needed.
